Great Updates from our friends at the VT Foodbank!

Greetings VT Foodbank Friends and Volunteers!

I just wanted to take a moment to check-in and share some information with you.

Pick for Your Neighbor

September is National Hunger Action Month and in an effort to get people involved in the fight against hunger, we are once again promoting Pick for Your Neighbor.  During apple season, you can visit local participating orchards to pick and purchase extra apples for donation to the Vermont Foodbank.  Last year we collected nearly 10,000 pounds of apples! Please visit a local orchard and help spread the word in your communities! CLICK HERE for a list of participating orchards.

Gleaning Volunteers Needed!

More helping hands are needed on local farms to harvest produce that would otherwise get tilled under or composted. We have regularly scheduled gleans weekly in the Lamoille Valley and Brattleboro region. Occasionally we have gleans in other areas as well where we may need your help. In addition, we need more helping hands to sort produce out of our Barre, Wolcott and Brattleboro facilities. Please let us know your availability. If you haven’t already filled out an application, but would like to help please CLICK HERE.

Vermont Fresh Handbook

Check out the NEW Vermont Fresh Handbook. You’ll find valuable information and recipes for local / seasonal vegetables. Please CLICK HERE to download a copy. It is a very large file and takes a few minutes to download. This publication was made possible with support from the Vermont Foodbank, Salvation Farms and Sterling College.

VT Foodbank Newsletter

I’ve attached a copy of our Summer 2012 newsletter highlighting the fresh food initiatives of the Vermont Foodbank. There are some great stories about farmers, volunteers and companies that are helping make fresh produce more accessible to Vermonters in need.

Thank you so much for interest and support of the VT Foodbank. Please don’t hesitate to contact me and share your ideas, thoughts and comments.

I hope to hear back from you.

Warmest regards,

Michelle
